Sexy female singer’s concert slammed as “striptease-like” performance — she fires back: “This is art!”

Recently, Turkish pop star Hadise has found herself at the center of controversy after footage from her Harbiye concert last year resurfaced on social media.
The images, originally taken a year ago, were widely circulated as if they were recent. Due to their bold and provocative nature, they quickly sparked backlash.
In response, Hadise broke her silence on social media, accusing critics of deliberately misusing the content:
“They are trying to intimidate all women with photos from a year ago. Please stop policing women’s bodies. I will continue my legal process.”
She framed the issue as one of women’s rights and bodily autonomy, defending her stage performance as a personal and artistic choice.
However, her stance drew sharp criticism from Umut Akyürek, a prominent figure in Turkey’s classical music scene.
Akyürek argued that the performance had nothing to do with art, stating:
“This is not art. It is the commercialization of the female body. It doesn’t even come close to artistic expression—it’s essentially a strip performance.”
The conflicting views quickly divided public opinion:
- Supporters argue for artistic freedom and women’s autonomy
- Critics emphasize aesthetic boundaries and the definition of art
The debate ultimately raises a broader question:
Where should the line be drawn between artistic expression and societal values?
