On April 20 (Beijing time), the selection criteria for the diving events at the 2026 Asian Games were officially announced. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Quan Hongchan has returned to the Guangdong provincial team and resumed training.

She has not represented the national team for nearly 11 months, with her last appearance dating back to the National Games in November last year. In previous interviews, she revealed that she had considered retirement after the Paris Olympics, and has yet to make a final decision about her future.

The Asian Games could now mark her potential comeback. With adjustments led by Zhou Jihong, the new selection system offers more flexibility, widely interpreted as creating an opportunity for her return. If her form improves, she may reunite with Chen Yuxi to defend their title.

Currently, Quan has resumed structured training with the provincial team. Although she has not officially rejoined the national squad, preparations are underway for the internal trials scheduled in June.

With only about one and a half months remaining before the June 5 trials, time is limited. However, the top six finishers from two selection rounds will enter the candidate pool, with the final decision made by the selection committee—leaving a realistic pathway for her inclusion.

With roughly five months still before the Asian Games, a successful return to international competition remains within reach for Quan Hongchan.
