Veteran Hong Kong entertainer Eric Tsang, 73, recently took part in a charity football match in Huizhou, China with the Hong Kong Celebrity Football Team. However, an unexpected fall during the game forced him off the pitch after just about a minute, drawing widespread attention after footage surfaced online.

The match was part of the team’s 40th anniversary celebration series. Led by Tsang alongside Alan Tam, the squad faced a women’s team in a friendly charity match. Wearing the No. 8 jersey, Tsang remained highly energetic on the field, actively running and participating despite not having the same agility as in his younger days.

The incident occurred during an attacking play when Tsang suddenly lost his footing and fell heavily onto the grass, briefly alarming teammates. Fortunately, he was able to get back up quickly and was confirmed to be unharmed. It was later revealed that the sole of his football boots had deteriorated and detached, causing the slip and forcing his early exit.

The tense moment soon turned lighthearted. Alan Tam, initially shocked, burst into laughter after learning it was just a shoe issue, while Michael Miu also relaxed after Tsang signaled he was fine.

Speaking after the match, Tsang joked, “I was on for just one minute before coming off!” He pointed to his damaged boots and explained, “They were worn out—the entire sole came off.” The Hong Kong Celebrity Football Team later playfully posted online: “Years of practice off the field, one minute on it. Brother Tsang, your shoes gave up!”

Although it was only a scare, many netizens expressed concern, noting that it is already impressive for someone in his 70s to still take part in football matches, praising his fitness and spirit.
