Beijing Guoan have endured a disappointing season so far. After eight rounds, they have managed just two wins, two draws, and four losses, with only one victory in five matches in April. By both results and performance, this is arguably their weakest campaign in the past decade.

The contrast with previous squads is stark. Even in 2016, when results were underwhelming, the team still had strong personnel, including top-level foreign players and key domestic stars in their prime. Today, Guoan struggle even to maintain squad depth, with injuries further compounding the issue.

Head coach Montgomery is under increasing pressure, especially with limited rotation options restricting tactical flexibility. After a 2–4 home defeat to Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, fan patience is beginning to wear thin.
