(Hong Kong, July 25) Hong Kong actress Samantha Ko has responded calmly after her new short hairstyle with full bangs sparked mixed reactions online, saying the makeover was simply a personal choice and asking the public not to overanalyse it.
According to Hong Kong media, TVB recently uploaded an interview promoting her upcoming drama Airport Diary II. However, some viewers felt the lighting, makeup and camera angles failed to flatter her new look, with some even comparing the hairstyle to Vicki Zhao's character "Ah Mui" in Shaolin Soccer and criticising the styling team.
As discussions intensified, TVB later removed the promotional video from its official social media platforms.
Speaking to reporters, Ko explained that she had wanted to try bangs for quite some time and that the hairstyle was not related to any particular role.
She revealed that the idea first came to her while filming a magazine photoshoot in Bali. Wanting a fresher look for the summer, she decided to cut her hair shorter and experiment with a different image.
Ko added that she hopes people will simply view the hairstyle as a personal fashion choice rather than reading too much into it.
