Popular livestreamer Feng Timo recently opened up about her childhood during a livestream, sharing how her family background shaped her views on marriage and parenting. Her remark, "If you're going to divorce, do it. Don't use your children as an excuse," quickly sparked widespread discussion online.
Feng recalled that her parents frequently argued in front of her when she was young, with some disputes even escalating into physical confrontations. She said those memories remain vivid because she had no choice but to witness the conflicts firsthand.
What affected her the most was hearing her parents say they stayed together "for the sake of the child." In her view, that statement shifted the burden of an adult decision onto the child. She believes children should never be used as the reason to maintain an unhappy marriage.
According to Feng, when a couple has already grown apart, forcing themselves to remain under the same roof often creates a tense and emotionally draining environment. While the family may appear complete on the surface, the lack of warmth and communication can have a lasting impact on a child's emotional well-being.
Eventually, her parents divorced, and the constant arguments came to an end. Feng said the divorce did not feel like a loss to her. Instead, it brought relief by allowing her to grow up in a calmer and more peaceful environment.
Drawing from her own experience, she said ending a painful relationship does not necessarily harm children. In some cases, it may actually help them escape an unhealthy family environment.
Her comments resonated with many viewers. Some agreed that an unhappy marriage can hurt everyone in the family, while others pointed out that children often understand far more than adults realise.
Rather than criticising her parents or glorifying divorce, Feng simply hoped to convey one message: what children truly need is not the appearance of a "complete family," but a safe, loving and emotionally stable home.
