“Emotional Farewell: 37-Year-Old Di María in Tears as Benfica Lose Portuguese Cup Final”

In what was meant to be the perfect farewell, 37-year-old Ángel Di María played his final match for Benfica, aiming to lift his 37th career trophy. However, Benfica fell 1-3 to Sporting CP in the Portuguese Cup final, and Di María left the field in tears.

The final, held on May 26th in the early hours (Beijing time), saw Benfica take the lead in the 47th minute with a stunning strike from Kokçu at the edge of the box. Sporting CP pushed forward relentlessly but failed to break through in regular time.

In the dying seconds of stoppage time (90+10’), Sporting’s Gyökeres was fouled in the box, and he calmly converted the penalty to level the score 1-1, forcing extra time.

In extra time, Sporting took control:

  • In the 99th minute, they scored again to make it 2-1.
  • In the 103rd minute, Di María came on as a substitute but couldn’t change the game.
  • In the 120th minute, Sporting sealed the 3-1 win.

At the final whistle, Di María sat on the grass in tears as teammates comforted him. His next move remains uncertain, but his legend continues to grow.
