Border Clash Erupts Between Laos and Cambodia: 10 Armed Intruders Captured by Lao Military

Tensions flared along the Laos-Cambodia border as the Lao military reported a violent clash with armed Cambodian personnel who illegally crossed into Lao territory.

According to a statement issued on July 26 by the military command of Champasak Province, the incident occurred between July 24 and 25 in the border area near Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani Province. A group of armed individuals from Cambodia reportedly entered Laos without authorization, triggering an immediate response from Lao forces.

Following a fierce exchange of gunfire, the Lao military successfully apprehended 10 Cambodian nationals. The troops seized four rifles and several hand grenades at the scene. The clash resulted in three fatalities and one injury, with the injured receiving medical treatment.

The captured individuals are now under interrogation as Lao authorities conduct a full investigation into the motive and possible affiliations behind the border intrusion.

This incident underscores the volatile security landscape in the Mekong region. Lao officials stated that border control measures will be intensified to prevent similar armed incursions in the future.
