Attractive pricing, but far from disruptive.

For the global tech community, the Meta Connect conference is one of the year’s biggest moments. Audiences tuned in eagerly, waiting to see what Mark Zuckerberg would unveil—especially the highly anticipated new AI glasses.

Over the past year, AI glasses have rapidly shifted from a niche gadget to a mainstream topic. In China, a so-called “Hundred-Glasses Battle” erupted, with smaller brands relying on viral marketing while major players pushed low-cost models to capture consumers. Yet, despite the buzz, the industry hit a wall: production challenges, poor user experience, and high return rates.

Meta, as one of the earliest pioneers, was expected to break this deadlock. This time, it launched three new AI glasses with improvements in battery life, photography, and stabilization. However, the products failed to deliver a true technological breakthrough, and live demos even stumbled—leaving many to wonder: What does the future of AI glasses really look like?

Despite falling short of expectations, Meta’s moves remain a global benchmark. Choices in weight, price, and intelligence will influence the direction of the entire industry. For now, though, AI glasses remain more of an “early adopter’s toy” than a mainstream necessity, hampered by high return rates, usability gaps, and ongoing privacy concerns.

Still, the long-term outlook remains bright. AI glasses carry the potential to become the next frontier of smart devices. As Meta signaled during its launch: the journey will be long, but the future is worth waiting for.
