Taiwanese singer Eric Chou has recently been touring China, but reports emerged claiming that ticket sales had fallen short of expectations, with rumours also suggesting that students at a Shanghai university were offered access to tickets.
Chou’s management company, Starry Flying, expressed its objection and confusion over the claims. The company said the local organiser may have collaborated with universities, although it was not aware of the details. It stressed that ticket sales and attendance had been strong, with large crowds remaining around the venue even after the concert ended.
Meanwhile, some fans expressed disappointment over the three-sided stadium stage used for Chou’s “Odyssey·Stars” tour. His company said it understood their concerns and had already instructed the production team to develop a new stage design.
However, the latest proposal has yet to fully meet the standards expected by the management company and organiser. Despite ticket sales for the Hangzhou show on the 26th reportedly nearing a sell-out, the team ultimately decided to cancel the concert.
An apology was subsequently issued, with fans offered full ticket refunds. The organiser also agreed to cover cancellation fees arising from affected transport and accommodation bookings.
Since launching in 2022, Eric Chou’s “Odyssey Journey World Tour” has received several international design honours, including a Platinum Award at the MUSE Design Awards, a Gold Award at South Korea’s K-DESIGN AWARD and a Platinum Award at the London Design Awards.
The latest controversy centres on the outdoor three-sided stage. Despite featuring a massive video screen and upgraded production elements adapted from the original four-sided stage, the design failed to satisfy all fans. The company has therefore decided to make further adjustments before moving forward with the tour.
