On January 22, U.S. insurer Lemonade announced it will offer 50% premium discounts for Tesla owners, provided their vehicles have FSD (Full Self-Driving) activated.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded on X (formerly Twitter): “Insurance is halved with Tesla Autopilot activated because it significantly improves driving safety.”

Lemonade’s insurance leverages Tesla’s telemetry data to distinguish between FSD-driven miles and human-driven miles, allowing premiums to be calculated based on actual risk.

Shai Wininger, co-founder and president of Lemonade, noted: “Unlike traditional insurers who treat cars as standard vehicles with fixed risk models, we assess risk using high-precision telemetry. A vehicle with 360-degree perception, zero fatigue, and millisecond-level reaction times is far safer than human drivers.”

Wininger also emphasized that as Tesla continues to update FSD software and enhance safety, insurance premiums may be reduced further in the future.
