On February 22, in the 1/32 men’s singles round of the WTT Singapore Grand Slam, world No.1 Wang Chuqin cruised past Lu Wei 3-0, with scores of 11-2, 11-9, 11-8, securing a strong season-opening victory. This marks Wang’s eighth consecutive win in the 2026 season. His next opponent will be Asian Cup bronze medalist Shunsuke Horiue.

Wang had just successfully defended his title at the 2026 Asian Cup. He skipped the WTT Doha Championship and WTT Doha Star Challenge earlier this season, following a back injury sustained at the 2025 WTT Hong Kong Grand Finals.

This season, Wang has consecutively defeated Tomokazu Harimoto, Zhang Youan, Zhou Qihao, Guo Yong, Abdulwahab, Feng Yixin, and Parhau, and with this Singapore Grand Slam win, he now boasts eight straight victories.

Match Highlights

  • Game 1: After a 1-1 start, Wang launched a 5-0 run to lead 6-1 and easily closed out 11-2, demonstrating a clear class gap over Lu Wei.
  • Game 2: Lu increased his aggression, making the set more competitive. Wang led 6-3, was caught, then edged 8-7 and eventually won 11-9. Notably, Wang’s Hawk-Eye challenge confirmed his serves are the result of precise, painstaking practice.
  • Game 3: Wang led 9-3 but Lu staged a 5-0 run, narrowing the gap to 8-9. Wang held his nerve and closed out 11-8, securing the match.

Wang Chuqin demonstrated his dominance as world No.1 and set a commanding tone for the 2026 season.
