(Hong Kong, March 21) Actor Matthew Cheung Ming-wai, known for his role as “George” in Come Home Love: Lo and Behold, is officially engaged to Whitney Hui Yi-yung, daughter of actress Loretta Lee (李麗珍) and music producer Hui Yuen.

The couple, who have been dating for around three years, recently shared a snowy proposal video on social media. In the clip, Cheung is seen getting down on one knee, while Hui captioned the post with: “I said YES!”, drawing a wave of congratulatory messages.

However, the video took a humorous turn. After the romantic kneeling moment, Hui lifted one leg onto Cheung’s shoulder, causing both of them to lose balance and fall. It was later revealed that the couple was recreating the iconic “JOJO pose” from the anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, leaving many netizens amused and briefly confused.

Responding to comments asking if it was a real proposal, Cheung jokingly replied, “We went a bit too far.”

Despite the playful twist, the engagement is real. Loretta Lee confirmed that her daughter accepted the proposal during their trip to Hokkaido. She revealed that Cheung had informed her months earlier about his intention to propose and sought her approval beforehand.

Lee expressed that marriage is ultimately a personal decision, saying, “As long as my daughter is happy, that’s what matters.” She also reflected on how quickly time has passed, noting that her 29-year-old daughter is about to enter a new stage in life.

She added that Cheung had secretly planned the snow proposal for months. When she received a call from her daughter saying, “Mom, I got proposed to!”, she had to pretend she didn’t already know.

When asked to rate her future son-in-law, Lee gave him a 9 out of 10, joking that the remaining point is to motivate him to continue working hard and take good care of her daughter.

Cheung, 36, comes from a well-off family. His father, Cheung Wing-sum, is a lawyer and founding member of the Liberal Party. A UCLA communications graduate, Cheung entered the entertainment industry upon returning to Hong Kong. After leaving TVB, he pursued music and formed the band “Charming Way,” where he serves as lead vocalist and guitarist.
