83-year-old Wong Yat Fei makes rare appearance, walking with difficulty; identity of woman assisting him sparks curiosity

(Hong Kong, 22nd) Veteran Hong Kong actor Wong Yat-fei, aged 83 and widely known as a frequent supporting actor in films by Stephen Chow, has kept a low public profile in recent years due to health concerns and a shift in career focus to mainland China. He made a rare public appearance at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards, drawing attention to his current condition.

Wong is best remembered for his role as “Senior Brother” in Shaolin Soccer, which earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2002 Hong Kong Film Awards. Despite continuing his career in China, his health has been a growing concern. After quitting smoking in 2009, his weight reportedly increased by nearly 50 pounds within a few years, reaching close to 200 pounds. Combined with bone spur issues, his mobility has been significantly affected.

Footage from the event shows Wong appearing in relatively stable spirits. His signature bald look remains, but his eyebrows have turned noticeably white, giving him a markedly aged appearance. Compared to footage from last year, he appears somewhat slimmer, with a reduction in abdominal size.

However, his mobility remains limited due to chronic leg issues. He walked slowly at the ceremony and required assistance from a female companion at all times, especially when entering and exiting the venue.

The woman accompanying him was described as a gentle-looking middle-aged lady. She stayed close, holding his arm and guiding him carefully throughout the event, leading to speculation that she may be his wife.
